And the Winner Is . . . ?

Here comes the hype. Oscar nominees have been announced, and some of us haven't seen many (or any!) of the candidates. Guidance, please. Which films or performances should we go see? When should we save our money? Tell us what you loved . . . and what you didn't.

My Mom & I saw "The Queen." Excellent movie. I want to see "Babel", "Pan's Labyrinth/El laberinto de Pan", "Children of Men", and "Volver/To Return" because I am an Hispanophile and because they all appear to be wonderful films.

You have to see "The Queen" and "Dreamgirls" both were amazing. I was so angry that "Dreamgirls" did not get nominated for best picture. It was fantastic, I went and bought the soundtrack, amazing. See it. You'll love it.

Well, I know which movies I desperately want to see, but since I'm stuck in deadline hell I'm not getting out any time soon.
I'm dying to see The Departed, because I adored the original Hong Kong movie, Infernal Affairs. Great movie, and I gather the American version is just as good.
I want to see Children of Men but it's not playing, The Last King of Scotland and Blood Diamond because there's an African connection in this book, Babel, and I'm absolute sucker for something like Night in the Museum because I love museums and I always thought it would be my idea of heaven to live in one.
But right now I'm chained to my computer, and just as happy to be there.
But I'll be watching the Oscars when they're on, because I can't resist.

TV Stevie is the movie maven at Herwood House. I think he's seen all the Best Picture Nominees except THE QUEEN, which (of course) is the one I want to see. Some of my RWA chapter members and I have talked about a 'girls night out' to see it--including one pal who's already seen it twice.

What's this? Casino Royale wasn't nominated?! But...but...that's the only movie I saw in 2006. Daniel Craig as James Bond. Yum.

But The Queen, which impressed Kay and others, just opened here a couple weeks ago, and I absolutely intend to see it, maybe next week. Big fan of Helen Mirren. Same for the late-opening Venus--San Diego is such a backwater town--starring the glorious Peter O'Toole. I've seen every movie he ever made, I'm pretty sure. And oh, I do hope he wins the Oscar!
