I'm reading Sara's Son. But no one else is going to have heard of it because it's not out yet! I'm still several chapters away from finishing the suspense novel that's due at the end of the month and I just received the manuscript back on my July romance, Sara's Son. It's my reading pleasure this weekend before I get back to the chapters tomorrow. This is the true life of the writer. My reading is also my work.
I'm reading RITA entries -- one awful, one quite good, one fabulous. I'm on the fourth now (one more to go) and it's better than I expected, so I'm hoping. After that I'm going to read Thornbirds, Shell Seekers, and The Copper Beech on assignment. What do I want to read? Another Sunshine book by Robin McKinley, or a new Laura Kinsale. Failing that, I'm looking forward to the new JR Ward, the last Tara Janzen (which I haven't read yet), a new Shana Abe about the drakon. Lisa Kleypas about the gypsy. Lots of luscious stuff coming our way in the next few months. Krissie
My reading's all over the place. I'm on a break and have been out of sorts physically, which is a good reason to rest and read, read, read.
I've been on a thriller kick for awhile and just finished Nelson DeMille's Wildfire. Not my fav of his books. Gold Coast I can highly recommend. Fabulous book.
At the grocery story, I picked up a copy of Lisa Gardner's Gone. Looks wonderful, but I'm not in the mood for more suspense, so I also got a Presents, Catherine Spencer's The French Count's Pregnant Bride. I'm loving it. Very angsty and dramatic and old worldy. Now I wish I'd also picked up Miss So & So's Forced Marriage, the only other Presents on the shelf.
I had tea with a dear friend yesterday, who insisted on buying me copies of Linda Howard's Drop Dead Gorgeous, which she said was drop dead funny, and Angela Knight's Jane's Warlord, which she described as a scorcher. Sounds like some hot reading to me!
I've recently discovered Sherrilyn Kenyon--she writes primarily paranormal romance and she's fantastic. I can't stop reading her. There's a lot of depth to her stories and they're so unusual. Read her, you'll love it.
Sherrilyn Kenyon is doing very well indeed. I read an early book and need to have a look at another. Meantime, RITA books to judge.
And on a table where I can see it . . . a book I started in November, keep reading when I can, and badly want to finish. But all sorts of things (like RITA books) keep shouldering to the front of the line.
And here's a lesson for us all. The author, Carol Berg (a fantasy author), was recommended by a friend when I was presenting a writing workshop in her neck of the woods. I nodded politely and asked which book to start with. She gave me some suggestions, which I meant to follow up. Later, she sent a link to more information about the author, which I looked at. And meant to follow up on.
Then, a package arrived. Rebecca, clearly aware of my good intentions/bad follow-through, had sent me a long, delicious-looking book, Son of Avonar. And I do love it, which is why I save it for special reading times.
The lesson (for me, anyway) is how wonderful it can be to have a friend who knows of a book you are apt to love and makes a real effort to put it in your hands.
The bestest friends nourish our pleasures. Thanks, Rebecca!
I read two of Susan Sizemore's vampire books on Friday. That's it for now. I need to dive back into my own writing. Oh, and I put THE TIME TRAVELER'S WIFE on hold at the library. I've heard lovely things about it.
I am reading Isabel Allennde's Ines of My Soul. It is a dark tale by the narrator Ines who tells of atrocities done to each other by Spaniards and Indians in settling Peru and Chile. It is slow going. I want to finish soon.
I got your book Hidden in the mail today. Thank you very much.
To Patricia, I also received your Tempting The Devil. Thank you very much.
I think those are books I will be reading next. They both look good.
