I've been on the road (I'm spending a lot of time traveling this summer) and having a fabulous time. Dallas a couple of weeks ago, New York and Philadelphia last week (still in PA as I type) and Australia and New Zealand next week.
This trip was research and bonding. I flew down on Wednesday to spend three days with Jenny Crusie and Lani Diane Rich hashing out some of the details of DOGS AND GODDESSES, meeting with my agents, researching at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, eating fabulous (and horrifying) food and basically Living the Dream life of a writer. We stayed in an apartment in th
e West Village, drank blackberry mojitos, talked late into the night (unless I fell asleep early) and just loved it.First night I accidentally got tentacles (Aiyeee!!!!). But the next night it was pizza with gorgonzola (bliss), which made up for the trauma. We spent all of Thursday at the Met, checking out the Mesopotamian exhibit, sneaking into the Japan visit (but of course) and
Then off to Philadelphia to visit my daughter, where we ate baked ziti and went to see Harry Potter (wonderful) and the young

So life, as always, is glorious. Reno (the hero of the new book) continues to kick my butt, but I'm fighting back, and sooner or later I'll be on top.
But in the meantime, what's your favorite museum? The MMA will always be my most beloved, though the

Then again, another favorite museum is the Ben Franklin Institute, except I was terrified of walking through the giant heart because I was afraid blood was going to come rushing through and drown me (I was a neurotic child).
So, what museum do you love? And if you've never been to one, or haven't since you were herded through as a school group, get thee hence. It's a treat and a half.

Sounds like you had a fabulous time! I'd say: the Smithsonian Institution-I grew up in Laurel, Maryland (midway between Baltimore & D.C.), took yearly field trips to the Smithsonian. Never saw the famous (old) medical exhibits though, I'm sure they would have scarred (& scared) me for life!
Also love the Franklin Institute (saw Tut again this year, first saw him back in the 70s in D.C.), & the MMA.
When I lived in Germany, we went to a museum (where & what it was, I've forgotten) that had quite an extenisve torture device exhibit. Shudder!

I have favorite moments at museums. Walking up the steps at the Philips Gallery in Washington D.C. and seeing the original of Renoir's The Boating Party after looking at reproductions for years, seeing the Mona Lisa at the Louvre, feeling like all of Florence was a Renaissance Art class.
I had a special tour of the Getty with a cousin of mine who is a scientist..I saw the 7 figure microscopes they use to date stones in their labs. The Getty's gardens are beautiful...they remind you of historical romance mazes.
I love reading about your summer travel adventures.

That brings back fond memories. I used to go to the museum whenever I could when I lived in New York many years ago.
If you have any interest in the American Indian of the west you need to visit the Heard Museum in Phoenix, AZ It is wonderful and they have a beautiful glass fence that displays the Indians philosophy of life.
Also, I spent 3 days returning to the Albert and Victoria Museum when I was in London-I could not get enough of the Egyptian wing and to see one of the original plays of Shakespeare in his own handwriting. Awesome
Aside from the obvious great museums in London and Paris and Rome I always enjoy visiting the Gene Autry Museum in Los Angeles. It not only has a vast collection of his items but some very nice art done by various Western artists like Remington.
I need to get out more often...
My last trip to a museum was way, way back when I was in the Navy. A buddy and I were stationed outside Washington D C. Had to take a trip to the Smithsonian...this was before it was enlarged. Remember Lindburgh's smallish plane hanging in the lobby, the jewels...Hope diamond was biiig.
I really need to get out more often.
Hi Anne,
I have never been to a museum. In school we drove forever to some location and were herded on a train and I seen the Liberty Bell,it was on journey through the states visiting. Another time we went to Seattle and seen the King Tut exhibit. It was so so huge and golden that I can still see it vividly in my mind's eye, even though at the time I was only in 4th grade.
Anne,
For me it's the Louvre. Plebian, maybe, but I've never been more moved by anything inhuman than I was there.
Of course, I had the Mona Lisa room all to myself as I visited there on the off season.
I could wander the whole place at leisure without fighting any crowds.
Pure bliss.

Australia, eh? Coming to Melbourne, by any chance?
Have a lovely day! :-)
I love the Met, too. I've seen the Mesopotamian exhibit and I wanted to try on Queen Puabi's headdress, but they wouldn't let me. =( Even though I told them it had been featured, as had she, in one of my books. Darn! Well, I had to try.
How are you and the new Mac getting along?
Maggie
I took my son to the Pink Palace museum in Memphis, Tenn. That's the closest one near me. I loved it and so did he.
Oh, you guys are making me want to go to the Smithsonian again. I didn't spend nearly enough time there!
Only going to Sydney and Brisbane, unfortunately (and Aukland) but expect lengthy trip reports. With photos! If I don't forget my camera this time.
And I freaking love my mac!
