So I've been blogging about my Christmas excesses over on my website (www.anne-stuart.com). I've been writing like a fiend, finishing up the Christmas novella and working on Dogs and Goddesses, getting my son ready for his trip to NZ, making quilts, trying to decorate the house, blasting Christmas music and generally having a good time. I don't think it's stopped snowing for a week. The Gods have decided that Vermont needed an old-fashioned winter for a change, and it's been cold and snowy and blowy. Fortunately we have tons of firewood and a warm house, so all is calm and bright inside. Well, as calm as things get with me.
My bah-humbug has vanished, and my ho ho ho has arrived, which is always nice. The best thing about Christmas, apart from having your kids around, is the preparation. The weeks ahead, of baking (none this year, alas! Richie is prediabetic), the music (tons and tons of Christmas cds and J-rock Christmas downloads) and decorating (which requires cleaning to make space but it's worth it) and wrapping and sewing and shopping and oh, my! Just freaking love it.
Tell me your favorite things about Christmas. And what you'd happily get rid of?
Fa la la la la, la la la la!

Anne, you sound like your really getting into the Christmas spirit!
My favorite thing about Christmas is the togetherness with my family!
I agree with Darla, definitely family get togethers are the best part.
My favorite thing about Christmas is having family time.
My favorite thing is decorating our tree with all our handmade ornaments over the years they are simply beautiful and of coarse the shopping for the kids, it's a little different now they don't want toys as much so it's a little more challenging i love the family getting together providing we're all getting along my husband has 12 brother's and sisters so it's virtually impossible for someone not to get mad and threaten not to show up and they do anyway and make a ass out of themselves anyway the things i could do with out is buying gifts for people i really don't want to and it's not really that, it's the selfish and self centered ones but i feel obligated and that's not what Christmas is supose to be about. But outside of that it's the most wonderful time of year!!
Oh, Anne, you're all Christmassy! Your post sparkles with it. I'm glad!
I love the snow. I love the energy. I think my very favorite thing is how friendly people get. Strangers say hello or let you ahead of them in line or in traffic, or wave, or smile or all of the above. It would be nice if that happened all year round, and it does once in awhile, but this time of year it becomes the norm, rather than the exception and I love that!
All the other stuff too. Family. Decorating. Shopping. Pretty lights on houses everywhere, especially the families who think they need to be visible from outer space.
Oh, and I have someone who gets me the most incredibly thoughtful, insightful gifts that are just perfect, and it always touches me deeply to see just how much planning and thought must have gone into them. It's amazing sometimes. I love that too!
Merry, merry!
