The Dog Ate My Blog! (Suzanne Forster)

Well, that's not exactly how it happened. I don't have a dog and my cat's a really finicky eater. The truth is I clean forgot ... but I do have a great excuse.

It's for the good of the country!

I volunteered to work for a candidate in this crazy rollercoaster ride of a primary election, and I'm tempted to say if I knew then what I know now ... well, you know the rest. Political compaigns can be all-consuming. They are definitely a time and energy suck. And this one clearly sucked the brain right out of my head. The only thing on my mind last night as I went to bed in the wee hours of election eve and this morning as I woke up on election day, was coordinating with the other volunteers and getting on the phones to call Indiana, North Carolina and Oregon, the states that are up for grabs today in this historical election.

So, yes, campaigning is lots of work, but when it's for a candidate you believe in, it's also incredibly rewarding, thrilling. and inspiring. You make tons of new friends all over the country--and in this case all over the world. I'm constantly amazed at the efforts of people from other countries. We have online volunteers from England, Australia, Canada, Mexico and myriad other parts of the globe, and their only goal is to help elect the candidate they believe most capable of solving the problems this country faces. It's really gratifying to see that kind of selfless dedication. I've never worked on a political campaign before, and it's truly been an education.

One thing I've learned: A country is only as strong as its citizens, which makes this one great country!!
So, please if you live in any of the primary states, go out and vote today. There are tens of thousands of people behind the scenes working very hard to make sure that every single vote counts.

Blessings,
Suz

I wish I did live in one of the Primary states. I know who I would vote for.

For some reason the News coverage is ignoring Oregon. I haven't seen one word about it even though Guam was covered on the weekend.

I was living in Portland in my sophomore year in high school when John Fitzgerald Kennedy came to campaign for the Oregon Primary.

He had laryngitis so Pierre Salinger had to give his speech.

When I was face to face, like any other teen seeking an autograph, he looked at me and I knew he was going to be elected. It wasn't that I hoped, I KNEW.

Now if you could get them to talk about the issues instead of he said she said! Nuff said.

I want to see your candidate reading one of your novels, Suzanne --- not that I know your candidate --- but I have a 50/50 chance of guessing correctly.

Great story, Ray!

Oh, don't I wish, Mary! From your mouth to God's ears, as they say.

Ray, great JFK story! I remember hearing about it. To think that you were there. What a memory that must be.

Christa, clearly I need to try the sticky note approach.

Darla, yes on issues! Because the economy's such a mess, people really do care about issues this time.

What part of CA are you from? If we've discussed this, please forgive me. It's either a blond or a senior moment, or both!
