What’s Bugging You? (Suzanne Forster)

The local news guy asked this question of viewers the other day—and I was very pleasantly surprised when I couldn’t immediately come up with an answer. On a normal week, I would have two or three pet peeves waiting in the wings, but on that particular day, I had nothing. Hallelujah, huh?

It was a Southwest Airlines commercial that brought me back to reality. They were guaranteeing that they wouldn’t charge for bags the way the other carriers did. My head snapped up from whatever I was doing. Southworst? They didn’t charge for baggage when the airline I used did charge? Alaska doesn’t just charge for the second bag, they charge for every bag. The round-trip total for my last flight was eighty dollars for two bags. Now that’s something to be bugged about.

On the bright side, I found a new carrier that doesn’t charge for bags and flies into Portland, which happens to be a city I have a major crush on. It’s also close to my son and grandkids, a serious bonus. And I would never have discovered this carrier if Alaska hadn’t started charging for bags, so sometimes these annoyances pay off. At the very least, they force us out of our ruts—and probably build new brain cells.

Did I mention that the new carrier is Southworst? Their ad got my attention so I checked their web site. When they say low fares, they mean it!

While I’ve been writing this a few other beefs have come to mind. In no particular order: Why do gray hairs grow straight up and shout look at me! Why don’t I prioritize better. Do they purposely make commercials just loud enough to wake you up? Why does the DVR only let me record two things at once? Why can’t my optometrist get my prescription right the first time? Or in the case of my new glasses, at all? I’m also bugged by stores that don’t honor the sales in their ads. Boo, hiss! Comedy Wednesdays that aren’t funny. And work that won’t stay done!

That last one is major. Please, someone invent a floor that stays mopped.

I would ask if anything’s bugging you, but your answer might be no. And that can be frightening, lol. I’m just kidding! I’m wishing all of you a blissful, worry-free day. And I’m going to have one too, no matter what goes wrong.

Silver linings!

You know since my husb died (coming up on 4 months) I have so many things that have been bugging me I can't keep up...but since the trip to Colorado to see my Aunt and cousins I've been a bit better. They didn't ask a bunch of questions about how I was doing etc. but we did alot of catching up, and they just let me be me and showered me with love and waited on me hand and foot almost, it was really relaxing which is just what I needed. I hadn't realized it but my aunt lost her husband (my moms brother) when she was the same age I am.

I did my filing system overhaul this weekend and that helped alot. My middle son Shawn made me stop long enough to go with him to take my grandkids trick or treating and after they stayed at my house to watch Hocus Pokus, my favorite Halloween movie (I needed that)!

Now I can move to the next thing on my list...I guess it just helps that I can see things being checked of the list, its getting done is all that matters.

Now as far as buggin...the damn crickets are driving me crazy, don't know how they do it, but they get in the house and creep me out. The've done that since one of my mom's babysitting kids (years ago) ate one, now I just can't stand them! Yeewwwwww!

My round trip flight to Colorado was only $120, and that was United, but I didn't have any checked baggage.

Thank you for asking, Suzanne. I'm bugged by loud and unexpected ads on websites. It's inappropriate and inconsiderate when many people want to be quietly on the Internet because they're in a library or have a sleeping baby nearby or whatever.

I've been a fan of Southwest for years. It's inexpensive, fun and studied as a model in business schools.

The airlines are charging for everything. They just announced a $10 increase on tickets for each way.

Darla! How wonderful to hear that you were showered with love and pampered. How perfect. It sounds like you had a lovely time. I'm so glad you went.

Good that you're keeping lists and checking things off too. My mood has been known to improve greatly when I can make some progress on my list.

Jane, try Southwest if it's in your area. Their fares are going down. A friend of mine came up with Southworst, lol, but I'm looking forward to trying it.

Mary, thanks for the reinforcement!
